Dr. Fraser

Prof. Matt Fraser is the Executive Director of the Quantum Energy and Sustainable Solar Technologies Engineering Research Center (QESST ERC) as well as Professor in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment and the School of Sustainability at ASU. As a faculty member, Dr. Fraser directs research projects on air quality and the sustainability of alternative energy systems. Dr. Fraser’s air quality research focuses on using detailed chemical speciation to apportion ambient pollutants to their original source. His research projects have applied these approaches to understand relative contributions from different sources to pollution levels in urban areas, the long-range transport and transformation of pollutants, and quantifying the environmental burden of pollution sources such as motor vehicles, refining operations and hydraulic fracturing to produce natural gas. In studying the sustainability of alternative energy systems, the QESST Sustainability team is developing anticipatory methods to understand life cycle impacts and material flow requirements for the rapidly expanding PV industry. Prof. Fraser teaches courses related to energy and the environment, renewable energy, and environmental chemistry.

Dr. Fraser received his Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and his Masters and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering Science from Caltech.
